House rewires
A rewire replaces old cables and accessories, and usually the consumer unit, bringing your electrics up to current standards. We carry out full and partial rewires for homes, rental properties and commercial premises.
Signs your property may need a rewire
- Old rubber, fabric or lead-sheathed cables
- Round-pin or brown and black sockets and switches
- Sockets fitted in skirting boards, or too few sockets for modern life
- No earth on the lighting circuits
- An EICR that recommends rewiring, or a major renovation planned
What a rewire involves
- A survey and a plan for sockets, lighting, switches and data points
- First fix: new cables run and chased in while walls and floors are open
- Second fix: new sockets, switches and fittings once plastering is done
- A new consumer unit, and smoke and heat alarms where required
- Testing and an Electrical Installation Certificate
We'll agree with you before work starts who will do the plastering and making good, so there are no surprises.

Common questions
Can I stay at home during a rewire?
Often, yes, especially for a partial rewire or if we work room by room. It depends on the size of the job and how you live, so we'll talk it through when we quote.
What's the difference between a full and partial rewire?
A full rewire replaces all the circuits. A partial rewire replaces only the circuits that need it, for example the lighting, an extension or one floor.
Will you need to lift floorboards and chase walls?
Usually some, yes. We plan routes to keep disruption to a minimum and agree with you beforehand how the walls and floors will be made good.
Is a rewire notifiable?
Yes. New circuits are notifiable building work in England under Part P of the Building Regulations. We'll explain how it will be notified for your job.
Do you rewire rental and commercial properties?
Yes. We rewire homes, rental properties and commercial premises, and can phase the work to keep disruption down.
