EV charger installation
A home charger is the safest and most convenient way to charge an electric car. We install chargers for homes and businesses, checking your supply and protection first so the charger works properly from day one.
What we check before installing
- Whether your supply and main fuse can handle the extra load
- Your earthing arrangement and the protection the charger needs
- Whether your consumer unit can take a new dedicated circuit
- The best position for the charger and a tidy cable route
- Wi-Fi or mobile signal at the charger, for smart features
Smart chargers are the law
- Home and workplace chargers sold in Great Britain since 30 June 2022 must be smart chargers.
- They come with pre-set off-peak charging hours, which you can change.
- Smart charging lets you charge on cheaper overnight tariffs where your supplier offers them.
- The local network operator must be told about a new charge point. We'll explain what's needed for your property.

Common questions
What size charger do I need?
Most homes have a single-phase supply, which suits chargers of up to about 7kW. We'll recommend what makes sense for your car, supply and driving.
Can the charger go on a garage or a wall away from the house?
Usually, yes. Longer cable runs need the right cable size and route, which we'll plan with you.
Will I need a new consumer unit?
Not always. If there's no space or the protection isn't suitable, we may recommend an upgrade. We'll tell you when we quote.
Do you install chargers for businesses?
Yes. We install workplace chargers, sized to the supply available at your premises.
Will I get a certificate?
Yes. You'll receive an Electrical Installation Certificate for the new circuit once it has been tested.
